Veteran sarod maestro Sudarshan Razopadhyay will be honored with the prestigious ‘Kala Shiromani’ Award at the 10th International Sangam Festival, to be held in the Indian state of Assam. The three-day festival is being organized by Sri Sri Rajahuwa Satra, Guwahati, and will take place from July 19 to 21 at the Sri Sri Rajahuwa Satra Rangamanch in Kumarpara.
The information was shared by the Satradhikar of the organizing institution, Sanatan Das. On the occasion, Razopadhyay will not only receive the ‘Kala Shiromani’ Award but will also present a special sarod recital, according to the festival’s Cultural Secretary, Manjumoni Borah.
The organizing secretary, Hallaram Borah Borbayan, said that artists from various states of India will participate in the three-day festival, showcasing performances in dance, music, instrumental music, and other cultural art forms. Cultural competitions will also be held as part of the event.
Earlier, in May, Razopadhyay was conferred the ‘Rashtriya Kalakshetram Samman’ at the Bharat Utsav held in Pune, Maharashtra. Organized by the Akhil Lok Kala Cultural Organization, the festival featured around 3,500 artists from different states of India presenting Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and various folk and classical art forms.
Razopadhyay has previously performed sarod recitals at numerous cultural events across different states of India. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to music and the arts, he has been honored with several national and international awards, including the Surtal International Award, the ‘Vividhta Mein Ekta’ National Award, the Indian Besties Award, Sangeet Manjari, and many other prestigious honors.
