About 100 kilos of gold recovered from TIA after passing the customs check

KATHMANDU: The Department of Revenue Investigation recovered around 100 kilograms of gold from Tribhuvan International Airport. The department discovered the gold that had been trafficked from Hong Kong and concealed inside shaving razors and brake shoes for motorcycles and scooters  yesterday.

Three people involved in gold smuggling, according to the Department, have been taken into custody. The gold was seized by the department even after it had passed immigration and police at the airport. According to the department, the gold was found while being transported in a cab from the front of the airport’s customs gate.

According to the department, this is likely the first instance where such a large amount of gold has been retrieved all at once.Earlier in August 2017, a driver from Chhetrapati, Kathmandu was detained with 88 kg of gold that had been brought in by Chinese traffickers.
