The Delaware Valley Newa Pucha (DVNP) celebrated its first annual picnic. The picnic was held on Saturday at Susquehannock State Park in Drumore, Pennsylvania with purpose to practice, preserve, and promote the Newah cultural heritage.

Special Guest Season Shrestha spoke about the importance of starting the Newah Pucha in America. As immediate Past President of the World Newah Organization, he shared knowledge of Newah culture and history as well as insight and experiences of Newah movements around the world. He stressed that every Newah, regardless of where they live, needs to learn who they are and what Newah values are to pass to the new generation.

He was welcomed and honored with khada by DVNP founding member Dr. Raj Kumar Shrestha.
More than 100 people from Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland joined the festivities. Attendees enjoyed delicious potluck home-cooked Newah dishes. Authentic Newah Samay Baji was served for lunch. Dinner included delicacies like goat meat (khashiyu laa), potato and bamboo shoot (aloo chhon), potato and cauliflower curry (aloo gobi), tomato pickle (golveda achar), and several other dishes, with yogurt and sweet balls for dessert. A big highlight of the day was popular Newah delicacy Gwarmari, which was cooked on site.

All senior participants were also presented with khada. Fun games like tug of war and wonderful live song and dance performances added extra flair to the event. Perfect weather and excellent company made the picnic very enjoyable and memorable. This type of event helps strengthen bonds with old friends in the community while building new friendships.
After a full day, DVNP parted at 8:00 pm with the promise to meet again soon.
